CVE-2024-33655
High 7.5
In plain English
A high-severity uncontrolled resource consumption in the python3-unbound package (AlmaLinux). Proof-of-concept exploit code is public. The chance it is exploited in the next 30 days is estimated at 1.7% (higher than 78% of all known vulnerabilities). Fixed versions are available - upgrade the affected package.
Official description
The DNS protocol in RFC 1035 and updates allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (resource consumption) by arranging for DNS queries to be accumulated for seconds, such that responses are later sent in a pulsing burst (which can be considered traffic amplification in some cases), aka the "DNSBomb" issue.
