CVE-2021-41617
High 7.0
In plain English
A high-severity security flaw in the openssh package (AlmaLinux). There are no confirmed reports of exploitation so far. The chance it is exploited in the next 30 days is estimated at 2.5% (higher than 85% of all known vulnerabilities). Ready-made attack tooling exists: public proof-of-concept code. Fixed versions are available - upgrade the affected package.
Official description
sshd in OpenSSH 6.2 through 8.x before 8.8, when certain non-default configurations are used, allows privilege escalation because supplemental groups are not initialized as expected. Helper programs for AuthorizedKeysCommand and AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand may run with privileges associated with group memberships of the sshd process, if the configuration specifies running the command as a different user.
